Image Permissions

Authors of articles, books, and other media (both print and digital) and producers of content who wish to use images produced by the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø (ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø) must abide by the terms and conditions regarding rights and permission as stated below, without exception. To request an image and permission to publish it, familiarize yourself with these terms of use and then contact the relevant department for fulfillment. Contact information for each ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø department appears near the bottom of this page.

Notification of Copyright

Documents, photographs, slides, and other media owned by the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø may be protected by copyright, trademark, or a related interest not owned by the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø. It is the responsibility of the applicant to determine whether any such rights exist and to obtain necessary permission for use.

Photographs depicting archaeological sites, monuments, and objects, and the production, reproduction, etc., which includes them, are subject to Greek legislation (Law 3028/2002, article 46, as amended by Law 4447/2016 article 27, as amended and in force under Law Ν. 4708/2020, article 20) and demand previous approval from the competent Authorities of the Ministry of Culture and Sports.

Permissions

The ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø can grant permissions for the use of its media content for both non-commercial and commercial use. Permissions and fulfillment fees may apply depending on how you intend to use this media. Unless otherwise stated, the credit lines listed below must be used in display and/or publication. You also agree to provide the Gennadius Library or the Blegen Library with a gratis copy of the publication (if applicable) in which the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø’s materials appear.

ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Credit Lines

Depending on which department provides your image(s) or other media, you will be asked to use one of the following credit lines:

  • ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø, Agora Excavations
  • ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø, Corinth Excavations
  • ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø, Gennadius Library
  • ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø, Archives 
  • ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø, Wiener Laboratory
  • ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø (this credit line will be used for requests for images used in ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Publications that are not from any of the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø’s departments)

In some instances, you will be asked to credit the photographer ahead of the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø credit line. Example: Photo C. Mauzy. ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø, Agora Excavations.

Fees for Using the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Collections or Facilities

Each ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø department is responsible for collecting fees for the permissions it grants. Pre-payment of fees is required prior to delivery of images or service. Fees may be waived or reduced at the discretion of an ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø department.

Payment of fees is accepted in either euros or U.S. dollars, in the form of checks (U.S. banks only), credit card, or wire transfer.

  • All images provided by the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø will be digital (TIFF format unless otherwise requested) at a minimum resolution of 300 ppi (1200 ppi for line art) and will be delivered by either email or download link.
  • All images are granted for non-exclusive use.
  • Turnaround time is two weeks after payment.
Images for Print or Electronic Publications

There is no charge for authors assigned ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø material.

Fees are charged for personal, research, or scholarly use (one-time use only) in:

  • Academic journals and collected volumes (charged per image)
  • Publications by small presses
  • Programs, flyers, brochures, webpages, and blogs

Fees are charged for commercial use (five-year use) in:

  • University press publications (up to 1,000 copies)
  • University press book cover (up to 1,000 copies)
  • Commercial publications (more than 1,000 copies)
  • Commercial publications, book cover (more than 1,000 copies)
  • Commercial brochures, programs, flyers, and newsletters (more than 1,000 copies)
  • Commercial newspapers and magazines (up to half a page)
  • Commercial newspapers and magazines (full page or cover)
  • Temporary exhibitions, one venue (less than six months)
  • Traveling exhibitions, multiple venues (more than six months)
  • Permanent exhibitions
Images for Documentaries

Fees are charged for the following categories:

  • Public TV broadcasts with all media, excluding commercial TV and streaming services (up to 10 years)
  • Commercial onling streaming (up to 10 years)
  • Commercial online streaming (perpetual)
Filming

Fees are charged for filming at the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø campus (by the hour).

Fees and financial transactions for filming at Corinth and at the Athenian Agora are managed by the Ephoreias and must be arranged through them in advance of filming.

Contacts

Please include your name, address, publication title, publisher, print run, and anticipated year of publication. When requesting permission for an existing ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø image, include either its URL or its title (if known) and inventory (or negative) number.

All other permission requests should be directed to the departmental contacts listed above.

Online Collections

The ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø makes available its collections online containing images and data of the Excavations at the Athenian Agora, the Excavations at Corinth, the Gennadius Library, the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Archives, as well as other material. These online collections (e.g., ascsa.net, agathe.gr, etc.) contain basic information about and images of these objects.

By using the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø's online collections, you are accepting the "Terms and Conditions," you can search the online catalogue, and you can view objects and imagery from the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø’s collections.

Terms and Conditions

Access to and use of the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø’s website is subject to the following terms and conditions and all applicable laws. By accessing this website, you agree to be bound by these terms and conditions:

1. Copyright
